Buying Demi-Fine Jewelry Online in Canada

You have the piece in your cart. You have read the reviews and looked at the photos twice, and you are still sitting there.

The question holding you is not whether the brand is any good. Reviews answer that one. The question is what happens if it isn't right. How long you wait for it. What it costs you to send it back. Whether the warranty is a real promise or a paragraph written to be refused.

Nobody publishes that part. Policy pages state terms. They do not tell you what the terms feel like from your side of the transaction.

So here is the whole sequence for buying jewelry online in Canada, in order: from the moment you pay, to the moment it lands, and back again if it has to go. These are our numbers and our limits, including the ones that are not flattering.

Looking for where to shop rather than what to expect when you do? That question is answered over here: where to buy gold jewelry in Canada.

Where your order ships from, and why that settles the duties question

Every Juno & Fern order ships from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Canadian postal code to Canadian postal code.

That single fact answers the thing most people are actually worried about. No duties on Canadian orders. Nobody arrives at your door with an invoice. No customs broker fee, no parcel held at a facility waiting for you to pay something you did not agree to at checkout.

It also sets a limit worth saying out loud: we ship within Canada only. Not the US, not internationally. If you are outside Canada, we are not the right shop, and the warranty below would not apply to you either.

Taxes are calculated at checkout by province โ€” GST, HST or PST depending on where you live. The number at checkout is the number you pay. Nothing is added later.

The full terms live on the shipping page.

From checkout to your door: dispatch days and the 5โ€“7 day window

Two numbers decide when your parcel arrives, and most brands only publish one of them.

  • Dispatch: twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. That is when parcels leave us.
  • Transit: 5โ€“7 business days to most postal codes.

The dispatch day is the number nobody tells you, and it is the one that explains the wait. Order on a Wednesday morning and your parcel is not sitting still because someone is slow โ€” it leaves on Friday. Order Saturday, and it leaves Tuesday. The 5โ€“7 days start from there, not from your click.

You get a tracking email the moment it goes out.

Shipping cost is simple. Free in Canada on orders over $99. Under $99, it is $5.99 flat.

In practice, for our pieces:

The 14-day return window, and where the clock starts

You have 14 days from purchase to start a return.

Read that again, because the important word is purchase. Not delivery. Most return policies never tell you which one they mean, and the difference is the whole policy. Ours says purchase, so it is worth knowing before you decide to leave the box on the hall table for a week.

To come back, a piece needs to be unworn, undamaged, with tags attached and in its original packaging. Not final sale. Bought in Canada.

Unworn is the condition that catches people, so here is the honest version of what it means. Try it on. Stand in front of a mirror, put on the shirt you bought it for, look at it in daylight and not just under a bathroom bulb. That is trying it on, and it is fine. A full day at work is wearing it.

The full conditions are on the returns and exchanges page.

Sending something back: store credit or refund

Start by emailing orders@junoandfern.com with your name, order number, the email you ordered with, and the reason. That is the whole process.

Return shipping is yours to cover, unless the piece arrived defective. Then the way you want your money back decides what happens next, and the two options are not the same:

  • Store credit. Nothing is deducted.
  • Refund to your original payment method. A flat $5.99 comes off.

For an exchange, take the store credit and reorder. It sounds like an extra step, and it is โ€” but it means you are not waiting on us to hold a piece for you while your parcel travels.

Once your return reaches us and has been checked, it is processed within 3โ€“5 business days.

That $5.99 is not a number we enjoy printing in a post like this. We are printing it because you will meet it eventually, and finding it in the fine print after you have already sent the parcel is worse than reading it now.

If the finish wears: what the plating warranty covers, and what it does not

We offer a 12-month plating warranty for Canadian customers. It is non-transferable โ€” original purchaser, bought directly from junoandfern.com.

It covers premature plating wear under normal use, and manufacturing defects. If a piece arrives damaged or faulty, tell us within 7 days.

Here is the part that decides whether a warranty is real: the exclusions. Ours are published, and this is all of them.

What the 12-month plating warranty does not cover

  • Normal wear and tear โ€” micro-scratches, minor surface marks
  • Misuse and accidents โ€” snags, crushing, bending
  • Chemical exposure โ€” perfume, lotion, cleaning agents, chlorine
  • Water exposure โ€” pools, hot tubs, showers
  • Improper care or storage, including tangles and friction burnishing
  • Lost or stolen pieces
  • Unauthorised repairs or alterations
  • Finish changes related to skin pH or environmental factors

That is a longer list than a marketing page would ever print. We would rather you read it now than discover it during a claim.

It also explains why the warranty is 12 months and not "lifetime." A gold layer is a finite thing. Ours is 4ยตm of 18K gold over solid 925 sterling silver, which is roughly double the demi-fine standard โ€” the difference between the plating types is set out in gold vermeil vs gold plated vs gold filled. That thickness is why the colour holds as long as it does under ordinary wear, which we have written about in does gold vermeil tarnish.

But finite is finite. A promise to cover plating forever is a promise about physics, and the brands that make it tend to have a long exclusions list doing the quiet work underneath. We do not offer a replating service, and we are not going to imply one exists.

To file a claim, email orders@junoandfern.com with your name, order number, email, phone number and photos. If it is covered, you get the same piece replaced when it is in stock, or store credit. You cover $5.99 to send the piece back; we cover the shipping on the replacement.

The full terms are on the warranty page.

If you are ready to place the order

None of this makes the decision for you. It just means the decision is being made with the whole picture rather than half of it.

If sensitive skin is the reason you are shopping in the first place, start with the best earrings for sensitive ears in Canada instead โ€” that is the more useful starting point.

Otherwise, everything we make is in one place. Have a look when you are ready: shop all, or start with earrings.

FAQ

How long does jewelry shipping take in Canada?

For Juno & Fern orders, 5โ€“7 business days in transit to most postal codes, plus the wait for the next dispatch. We dispatch twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, from Halifax. You get a tracking email when your parcel leaves.

Will I pay duties or customs on a Canadian jewelry order?

Not on ours. All orders ship from Halifax, Nova Scotia, so a Canadian order is a domestic parcel. There are no duties on Canadian orders. Taxes are calculated at checkout by province, and nothing is added afterwards.

Does the return window start when I order or when it arrives?

Ours starts at purchase. You have 14 days from purchase to start a return. Many policies leave this unstated, so it is worth checking on any brand before you buy, not after.

Can I return jewelry I bought online, and who pays return shipping?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase, if the piece is unworn, undamaged, with tags attached and in its original packaging. Return shipping is yours unless the item arrived defective. Store credit has nothing deducted; a refund to your original payment method has a flat $5.99 taken off.

What does a 12-month gold plating warranty actually cover?

Ours covers premature plating wear under normal use, plus manufacturing defects. It does not cover normal wear and tear, water or chemical exposure, misuse, improper care and storage including friction burnishing, loss, or unauthorised repairs. It applies to Canadian customers only and is non-transferable.
